We are excited to announce the release of Luceda 2024.12, bringing a range of significant enhancements to the Luceda Photonics Design Platform. This release includes improvements to design rule checks (DRC), design kit installation, process design kit (PDK) technology definition, and new educational resources to empower photonic designers across academia and industry.
Key Highlights of the Release:
1. Design Rule Checks (DRC)
- Capability to run DRC directly within Luceda IPKISS and automatically open the results in KLayout, using the Link for Spark Photonic's Check Mate DRC tool or the KLayout DRC engine.
- A ready-to-use Klayout DRC example deck for the SiFab PDK to simplify the learning curve for new users.

2. Global Installation of Design Kits
- Global installation of Luceda Design Kits (PDK, ADK, TDK) via the Luceda Control Center (LCC), simplifying the design project setup process.
- Automatic integration of design kits into projects, eliminating the need for manual configurations.
- Efficient management of multiple PDK versions through LCC, with automatic recognition of the latest version.
- Support for manual PYTHONPATH configurations to accommodate for custom setups.
3. PDK Technology Definition
- TECH Default Values: Accelerates PDK creation and testing by eliminating the need to provide all TECH keys upfront, reducing setup time and complexity.
- TECH Code Completion: Enables code completion for the technology (TECH) object making it easier to find the right layers and technology settings when using a Luceda PDK.
4. New Tutorials on Luceda Academy
- SpectrumAnalyzer Tutorial: Learn to analyze simulation and measurement data, compare results, and extract key performance indices with a hands-on example.
- QSCE-based electro-absorption modulator with Nextnano and Luceda: Simulate a multi-quantum well electro-absorption modulator in Luceda IPKISS, leveraging Nextnano++ for quantum physics device simulations.
5. IPKISS Canvas Improvements
- Fixed rotations when generating Python code from schematics.
- Enhanced the styling of IPKISS Canvas for a more refined user experience.
- Easier codelet sharing by referencing them through relative paths.
